HISTORY AND BACKGROUND

The Student Affairs and Development Division (STADD) of IIUM has undergone several transformations since the university’s inception in 1983.

During its establishment, IIUM’s student affairs were managed under the Academic and Student Affairs Division (ASAD). The division was initially led by En. Ahmad Apandi Bin Johan, who served not only as the Secretary of ASAD but also as the Secretary to the Senate. Following his tenure, En. Adzahan Bin Hj Mohamed took over the leadership.

As the university grew, the responsibilities of student affairs and academic affairs were recognized as distinct areas, prompting the creation of separate entities. The ASAD was subsequently restructured, leading to the formation of the Student Affairs Division (STAD). Dr. Mohd Nur Manuty was appointed as the first Dean of STAD, marking the formal separation of student and academic affairs management. Concurrently, a Dean for Academic Affairs was appointed to oversee academic-related functions, further emphasizing the division of responsibilities.

In the early 2000s, a further restructuring occurred within STAD, dividing its functions into two separate divisions: Student Development (S-DEV) and Student Affairs Services (SAF). These divisions were led by En. Wan Mohd Hilmi Wan Kamal and En. Abu Bakar Sidek, respectively. This restructuring aimed to streamline and focus on specific aspects of student affairs and development.

Later, S-DEV was renamed as the Centre for Leadership and Values (CLAV), while SAF retained its core functions under the name Student Affairs and Development Division. However, in 2012, these two entities—CLAV and SAF—were merged once again under the unified banner of the Student Affairs and Development Division (STADD). This consolidation was intended to enhance efficiency and better serve the needs of the student body by bringing together the development and welfare aspects of student life at IIUM under a single division.

The Student Affairs and Development Division (STADD) at the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) plays a crucial role in overseeing and enhancing the overall well-being and development of students.

Major Functions of STADD:

  3. Leadership Training: Offering programs and training designed to cultivate leadership qualities in students.
  4. Transportation Services: Providing reliable and safe transportation for the IIUM community.
