ABOUT STUDENT RESIDENTIAL COLLEGE (MAHALLAH)
Students’s residential college of the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) is known as Mahallah. The word Mahallah refers to a place where it is supposed to be a self-contained not only with services but also activities. IIUM chooses to name its Mahallah after the leading companions of the Prophet S.A.W and the female Mujahidah and Syuhada. There are 17 Mahallah in Gombak Campus that accommodate about 18,000 students.
IIUM ACCOMODATION POLICY
IIUM has approved the revised IIUM Accommodation Policy as presented in the Based on the Board of Governors Meeting No. 52 held on 25th February 2019. The policies are as follows:
- The University is not practicing 100% accommodation policy for all IIUM students. The accommodation is offered based on room vacancy on a first come basis.
- Application for on-campus accommodation is made through an online room registration system currently enforced.
- The University reserves the right to determine the duration of stay at the Mahallah.
- The University reserves the right to instruct resident students to vacate rooms during the vacation.
- The University reserves the right to rent any vacant rooms/spaces to others.
- The University reserves the right to impose rental rate for all rooms/spaces from time to time.

GENERAL INFORMATION
- What is a Mahallah at IIUM
- Mahallah is a residential college within IIUM that provides accommodation, basic facilities, and a supportive living–learning environment for students.
- Who is eligible to stay in a Mahallah?
- Mahallah accommodation is primarily provided to Undergraduate and Postgraduate students, subject to IIUM policies and room availability.
- Is Mahallah accommodation guaranteed for all students?
- No. Mahallah accommodation is not guaranteed and is subject to room availability and IIUM accommodation policy.
- Are married students allowed to stay in Mahallah?
- Mahallah accommodation is generally not available for married students. However, IIUM may offer apartment units for rent outside the Mahallah, subject to availability.

- How can I apply for Mahallah accommodation?
- Applications must be made online through the Mahallah registration system during the official application period announced by RSD.

- When does Mahallah registration open?
- The opening date will be announced by the Residential and Services Department (RSD). Students are advised to check the RSD website, i-Ma’luum (Student Portal), and RSD social media regularly.
ROOM TYPES & FACILITIES
- What types of rooms are available in Mahallah?
- Room types vary by Mahallah and may include quad sharing room, twin Sharing room, and single room. For upgraded room, we have single executive room, premium twin sharing room and studio room.
- What are the common amenities and facilities are provided in Mahallah?
- Room amenities includes bed and mattress, wardrobe, study table and chair, bookshelf, mirror, and shoe rack.
- Room facilities includes shared bathrooms and toilets (except for single executive room), laundry area, musolla, cafeteria, convenience shop, barber shop, multipurpose hall, parcel box.
INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS
- What should international students do upon arrival?
- International students must report to the IIUM Visa Unit for visa endorsement or verification before completing Mahallah registration and check-in.
CHECK-IN, CHECK-OUT, AND CHANGE ROOM OR MAHALLAH
- Can I change my room or Mahallah after check-in?
- Changes room or Mahallah are allowed based on official announcements by RSD.
- Processing fees: change room: RM5, change Mahallah: RM10
- What should I do if I want to check out or move out?
- Students must vacate the room, ensure cleanliness, report maintenance issues, and return the room key to the Mahallah Office.
- How do I make Mahallah clearance?
- Students must complete check-out procedures, settle outstanding fees or compounds, and obtain clearance from the Mahallah Office. Live Off-Campus (LOC) students should contact the Residential Management Unit (RMU), RSD.
- What if I need to check in or check out after office hours?
- Check-in requires prior notice to the Mahallah Office for a necessary arrangement . Check-out keys can be dropped in the key drop box with notification to the Mahallah Office.

- Can I bring my own electrical appliances?
- Only approved items are allowed such as automatic kettle, personal computer/laptop with printer, one power extension and chargers, hair dryer. iron or toaster. Other items require approval from the Director of RSD.
- What happens if my academic status becomes inactive?
- Students may lose eligibility and be required to vacate the Mahallah.
- What if I receive a compound?
- Students may appeal within 14 days. Payment must be made via i-Maluum (Student Portal). Repeated offences may result in expulsion from Mahallah.

RENTAL (SPECIAL CATEGORIES)
- Who can apply for Mahallah rental?
- Inactive students, non-IIUM students, SBU members, alumni, staff, and the public may apply, subject to availability.
- How do I request for Mahallah rental?
- Requests must be submitted to rsd.rmu@iium.edu.my at least 7 days before stay, including personal details, applicant category, duration, and preferred Mahallah.
