How many books can I borrow with my library card?

The number of books you can borrow depends on your status:

  • Undergraduate Students: 15 books for 30 days
  • Postgraduate Students: 20 books for 30 days
  • Academic Staff: 30 books for 60 days
  • Administrative Staff: 20 books for 60 days

Return methods vary by campus:

  • Gombak Campus:
    • Library Smart Bookdrop
    • OSEM Bookdrop
    • By post (Recommended: Poslaju)
  • IMC Campus: Library Bookdrop
  • CFS Campus: No Bookdrop available
  • SMNAL Campus: Check with campus library
  • Pagoh Campus: Check with campus library
Can I return books to Gombak library by post/courier?

Yes, you can return books by post with these guidelines:

  • Recommended courier: POS LAJU

How do I apply for library membership?

Membership application process:

  • Only IIUM faculty, students and staff can apply for online membership
  • Visit the library homepage and look for "Library Membership"
  • Scan the QR code or go to: http://bit.ly/members-iium-lib
  • Fill in the online application form
  • For other membership types, contact the relevant person (same as above)
What should I do if I want to continue using the library after graduation?

As an alumni:

  • You can enter the library by showing your alumni card to access physical resources
  • To borrow books, you need to register as an external member
  • Contact the relevant person for more information (same as above)
I have a matric number but no barcode. How do I request a library barcode?

How do I borrow books from other campus libraries?

Interlibrary loan process:

  1. Visit https://www.iium.edu.my/division/lib
  2. Scroll down to "Quick links" area
  3. Click "Interlibrary loan"
  4. Fill in the details and click "submit"
How do I get books not available in Dar al-Hikmah Library?

Follow the same interlibrary loan process as above.

How long can I keep interlibrary loan books?

You may borrow interlibrary loan books for 2 weeks.

How many interlibrary loan books can I borrow at once?

Maximum of 2 interlibrary loan books at a time.

Can I extend interlibrary loan books during pandemic?

During pandemic:

  • We advise you to post the books to Dar al-Hikmah Library at:

How do I get access to IREP articles?

To access IREP articles:

  1. Visit https://www.iium.edu.my/division/lib
  2. Scroll down to IIUM Discovery Service platform
  3. Enter the article title
  4. If available in full text, you'll see a PDF icon
  5. If not, click "request for interlibrary loan"

Note: RM2 will be charged for available articles.

Search your article in the Scopus database to verify its indexing status.

Off-Campus Access

Who can use off-campus access?

Off-campus access is available for:

  1. Active students/staff (with matric/staff card)
  2. Registered library members
  3. Those with library barcode number and PIN
How to use off-campus access?

To access library resources remotely:

  1. Go to: https://login.ezlib.iium.edu.my/login/
  2. Username: Barcode number on back of matric/staff card
  3. Default password: 123456 or any 6-digit number you saved

If you forgot your password, contact the relevant person (same as above).

Online Databases

What are online databases?

Online databases are:

  • Bibliographic databases that allow you to search for journal articles and papers
  • Cover specialized topics published in various journals, reports, and conference documents
  • Three types:
    1. Indexes & Abstracts: Only provide citations/summaries
    2. Full-text Databases: Provide complete article text
    3. Combination: Provide both citations and full text
Why should I use databases instead of internet searches?

Database advantages:

  • Provide current, reliable information from specialized sources
  • More authoritative than general internet information
  • Better for academic research
How can I access online databases for the first time?

I don't have a matric card. How can I access databases?

If you only have a matric number:

  1. Email your name and matric number to smartcardiium@gmail.com to request library barcode
  2. Register for library membership (link above)
  3. Use off-campus access if not on university network
Why do I get "sign in through my institution" when trying to download articles?

This means:

  • The library doesn't have a subscription to that particular journal/article
  • No full-text access is available through our subscriptions

Why can't I access certain e-book titles?

This means:

  • Not all titles in a database are subscribed by the library
  • Your login works, but we don't have access to that specific title

We recommend searching at al-Manhal e-Books for Arabic Islamic studies collections.

How can I request a book purchase for my course?

To request a book purchase:

  1. Fill out the online acquisition form at: https://www.iium.edu.my/division/lib/acquisition-request-form-1
  2. Provide all necessary details about the book
