These digital versions of books offer readers the flexibility to access and read their favorite titles anytime, anywhere, without the need for physical copies. Ebooks typically come in various formats such as PDF, EPUB, and MOBI, allowing compatibility across different devices and platforms. The Reference Collection is a rich
repository of knowledge and information, meticulously curated to offer
a wide array of resources such as Dictionaries, Encyclopedias,
Directories, Biographies, Numerical data compilations, Handbooks,
Manuals, Bibliographies, Yearbooks, Gazetteers, Atlases, Indexes, and
Abstracts. Spanning all four floors of the library, this collection is
organized by subject for easy navigation. Except for Level one, the
Reference Collection is organized on wooden shelves.

The Controlled Access Collection
comprises a diverse range of materials including red-spot books,
Theses, Research reports, Pictorial collections, Official publications,
and Small-size publications. These materials are strategically located
across all four floors of the library. While certain collections are
openly displayed on shelves to facilitate browsing, others require
over-the-counter access and have a restricted borrowing period. To know
the exact locations of the controlled access collections, clients are
advised to use Shelf Directory (Smart Siddiq Directory). Some
collections are placed on open shelves for easy browsing, and some are
over-the-counter access and have a limited borrowing period.

The Serial Collection encompasses a
variety of back volumes of printed journals. Back volumes of journals
are conveniently shelved together, allowing easy access for browsing
and research purposes. Additionally, this collection features both
local popular magazines and international popular magazines, offering a
diverse range of content to suit varying interests.
Dar al-Hikmah Library Serials Collection is located at Level 4. Our collections consist of titles in various subjects such as religion, language, architecture, environmental design, law, economy, management science, engineering, education, and information and communication technology. Items in the Serials Collection are available in variety of formats: loose-journals, bounded journals, online databases and electronic journals.
The library has over 1,500 titles of printed journals, reports, yearbooks, directories and etc.

The library exclusively maintains back volumes of printed journals, as subscriptions to new printed journals have ceased. Past issues are systematically bound and organized based on their publication year.

- The Ahmad Ibrahim Collection is a distinguished repository within our library dedicated to preserving the intellectual legacy of the late Prof. Ahmad Ibrahim, a renowned scholar and eminent figure in the field of law. This special collection comprises an extensive array of books, documents, and other materials that reflect Prof. Ahmad Ibrahim’s scholarly contributions, expertise, and influence in the realm of legal studies. He was a prominent figure in Islamic law in Malaysia. He is widely recognized as the father of Malaysian law.

- The International Institute of Islamic Business and Finance (IIIBF) provides a comprehensive resource related to Islamic law, economics, business, and finance.

- The Mohd Kamal Hassan Library (MKH Library) is Special Library located at Level 4, Abdul Rauf Building (for internal reference only).
- The Mohd Kamal Hassan Library is a collection of books and materials dedicated to the life and work of the late Prof. Mohd Kamal Hassan, an esteemed scholar and intellectual giant in the field of Islamic studies. This specialized library serves as a tribute to Prof. Mohd Kamal Hassan’s profound contributions to academia and Islamic scholarship, providing a comprehensive collection of resources that reflect his expertise, insights, and scholarly legacy.

- The Scholastic Collections represent a unique and exclusive collection housed within our library, comprising special collections owned or authored by current and former rectors of the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM). Located at Level 4 of the Dar al-Hikmah Library, these collections are designated for internal reference only, serving as a evidence to the scholarly contributions and intellectual legacy of IIUM’s esteemed rectors.
Law materials in Dar al-Hikmah
Library consist of acts and regulations or statutes, law reports,
journals and other law-related publications, textbooks, works of
general references, digests, indexes, legal encyclopedias and
dictionaries, and other works having some bearing on law.
LEGISLATIONS
Legislation is that source of law that consists in the declaration of legal rules by a competent authority. In the Malaysian context, legislation refers to laws declared by Federal Parliament, any State Legislative Assembly, or any person or body legally authorized to make rules and regulations. It can be divided into two (2) categories:
A common source of information in a law library is textbooks, written essentially for students, persons in the academic profession, legal practitioners, and others interested in knowing the law on a particular subject. Some textbooks incorporate detailed treatment of a subject, while others are usually concerned with describing the basic rules and principles of law with an emphasis on the present state of the law.
LAW JOURNALS
Journals (also called periodicals) are published at regular intervals (ranging from weekly to annually), and are an important source of legal material. Legal periodicals contain articles, notes, and comments on recent cases, information on recent legal development, and book reviews and may also contain other information. There are Malaysian academic journals such as Malayan Law Journal (MLJ), IIUM Law Journal, Journal Syariah, IKIM Law Journal, Journal of Malaysian and Comparative Law, Malaysian Journal of Law & Society, UiTM Law Review, Current Law Journal (CLJ which is essentially a law report, but publishes articles occasionally).
LAW REPORTS
Cases decided by courts and tribunals are important source material in many types of legal research and writing. Besides the Malaysian law reports a familiarity with the English law reports is therefore necessary for any researcher.
English Law Reports
Malaysian Law Reports
An index usually provides the name of the author(s), title and references to articles. In some cases, an index may also include an abstract (summary) of the article. Many legal journals publish their own index in annual volumes. However, these have limited use as they include only such articles as are published in a particular journal. Some of the collections are listed below:

The law, like many other academic disciplines, has its own technical words and phrases which are either not used in ordinary language or they are used in a specific sense. To check the meaning of every law words, terms, phrases and maxims, legal dictionaries would be the first options.

Browse-Able Multimedia Collection was introduced to the IIUM library
users commencing 9th September 2013.
This new service ensures ease of access to the collection and also maximizes the usage of multimedia materials in the library. Users may browse the multimedia materials on the shelves and borrow them out at the multimedia counter.

LOAN POLICY
- All registered members (staff/students) are allowed to borrow browseable multimedia materials. Borrowing can be done at the Multimedia Counter, Level 3.
- Only two (2) items can be borrowed at a time for two (2) days.
- Users who wish to use microforms and cartographic materials can request them at the Multimedia Counter for reference in the library.

Theses collection in the Library
comprises of Master and PhD theses of IIUM, non-IIUM theses produced by
the IIUM faculty members and Islamic theses. Theses must be deposited
to the Library in digital and print format. Print copies are kept under
controlled access and available upon request. Commencing Sept 2013,
users are allowed to enter the room and browse the theses on the
shelves. Besides the print format, the first 24 pages of the online
theses can be viewed from the Library homepage. The full text theses
can be accessed from any of the six (6) dedicated PCs available on all
the 4 floors of the main Library.

- This service is opened to the Islamic University Malaysia library’s customers only. Priority is given to post-graduate students.Customers who wish to use this service should leave their matriculation card at the multimedia counter.
- External users (non-IIUM staff and students) who wish to use the browse-able theses shall be imposed RM20.00 as service charge. The payment has to be made at the Circulation Counter at level 2. The receipt must be shown to the Multimedia Counter staff before entering the Theses Collection room.
- Theses collection is for reference only.
- Customers are not allowed to bring theses out of this room.
- Mutilation of items is an offence and liable for disciplinary action.
- Illegal reproduction of the thesis is strictly prohibited.
